கூட: எல்லாரும் ஒருகாலத்தில் கூட இருந்தாங்க

கூட என்ற சொல்லுக்கு இரண்டு பொருள்: “உடன்” (with), “என் கூட வா”; அழுத்தம் தரும் “கூட” (even), “ஒரு நாள் கூட”. பள்ளியில் எல்லாமே முதல் கூட: கூட படித்தோம், கூட சாப்பிட்டோம். பிறகு இரண்டாவது கூட: ஒரு call கூட இல்லை. அப்பாவுக்கு operation என்றதும் Bangalore-இலிருந்து bus பிடித்து வந்தவன் மட்டும் இன்னும் கூட இருக்கிறான்.

In English

"Kooda" has two meanings in Tamil. One — "with". "Come with me." Two — "even". "Not even one day." At school, everything was "with". We ate together. Studied together. Got caned together. After college, everyone went off to a different town. Now it has all become the second "kooda". Not even a call. Not even a message. But… the moment he heard appa needed an operation, one of them caught a bus from Bangalore without a word. He slept three nights on a hospital bench. Everyone… was "with" me once. Only he is still with me, to this day.

What the film shows

A school sports-day photo of five friends; four wash out as their colours leave for other cities and the calls go unanswered, while the one who took a night bus from Bangalore sleeps on a hospital bench and his colour climbs back into the photo.

How it was made

Sujal recorded the voice himself, on his phone, in Tamil; there is no AI voice. The picture was drawn in code with Claude, in the Watercolour Brush style of the Lemo-Opuscar film library, on one PC above our shop in Vaniyambadi.
