அனுப்பு: அப்பா அனுப்பியது காசு இல்லை, அவருடைய பத்து வருஷம்

அனுப்பு என்ற வினைச்சொல்லுக்கு இரண்டு பயன்பாடு: ஒருவரை வேறு இடத்திற்கு அனுப்புதல், வழியனுப்புதல் (send someone away), பணமோ பொருளோ அனுப்புதல் (send money). இந்தப் படத்தில் எட்டு வயதில் அப்பாவை Dubai-க்கு அனுப்பினார்கள். பத்து வருடம் மாதாமாதம் “அனுப்பியாச்சு” என்று அவர் காசு அனுப்பினார். அவர் அனுப்பியது காசு இல்லை; அவருடைய பத்து வருடம்.

In English

"Anuppu" has two meanings in Tamil. One, sending a person away. Two, sending money. When I was eight, we sent appa to Dubai. Every month, appa sent money. A message would come: "Sent." That money paid for school fees, akka's wedding, this house. Ten years… Pongal, Deepavali, my birthday… all of them on a video call. Only last month, appa came back. I saw him at the airport. His hair had all gone white. What he sent wasn't money… it was ten years of his life.

What the film shows

Appa leaves for Dubai with a suitcase, 'Anuppiyaachu' messages build the house month after month, ten years of festivals pass on video calls, and he comes home with his hair turned white.

How it was made

Sujal recorded the voice himself, on his phone, in Tamil; there is no AI voice. The picture was drawn in code with Claude, in the Watercolour Brush style of the Lemo-Opuscar film library, on one PC above our shop in Vaniyambadi.
