பாகம் 1: இரவு 11 மணி, வால்பாறை மலைப்பாதையில் கடைசி பஸ். பஸ்ஸில் மூன்று பேர்தான்: கதை சொல்பவர், conductor, ஜன்னல் பக்கம் மெல்லப் பாடிக்கொண்டிருக்கும் ஒரு பாட்டி. டிக்கெட் கேட்டதும் அவர் ஒரு பழைய டிக்கெட்டை நீட்டுகிறார்: 1998-இல் கொடுத்தது. திரும்பிப் பார்த்தால் ஜன்னல் சீட் காலி; பாட்டு மட்டும் இன்னும் கேட்கிறது.

Eleven o'clock at night. The last bus on the Valparai ghat road. Only three people on the bus. Me, the conductor, and an old woman. The paati was sitting by the window. She was softly singing some song. The conductor asked for her ticket. The paati didn't say a word. She held out an old ticket. The conductor looked at it. His face went completely white. "This ticket… was issued in 1998." I turned around. The window seat… empty. But that song… could still be heard.

What the film shows

White lines build the Valparai hairpins at 11 pm, the bus aisle and an old woman singing at the window; she hands the conductor a ticket stamped 1998, and when he turns her seat is empty but her song trails the bus.

How it was made

Sujal recorded the voice himself, on his phone, in Tamil; there is no AI voice. The picture was drawn in code with Claude, in the Saul Bass line titles, black and white style of the Lemo-Opuscar film library, on one PC above our shop in Vaniyambadi. Kadaisi Bus is fiction.
